Gay for a weekend retreat of Yoga this May or September near the Bay Area yet a World Away...
This weekend
retreat is for practicing yoga together in a beautiful, natural setting and
taking time away from the usual distractions of daily life. We will explore
a balanced practice over the weekend including challenging asanas, breathing
awareness and deep relaxation.
This retreat offers a
quiet space for going deeply into the healing and energizing aspects of yoga
and I appreciate the focus and fresh perspective the retreats provide.
The first class will begin on Friday at 5:00 and you are welcome to
check in any time after 2pm to enjoy the hiking trails and sauna. The
retreat will finish after the noon meal on Sunday. Please bring the
following yoga props: sticky mat, 2 blankets, block and tie.
Land of the Medicine Buddha is a center devoted to healing and
developing loving kindness. Situated on 170 acres in Soquel, CA just south
of Santa Cruz. adjoining 10,000 acres of state forest, the location provides
the perfect space to relax, recharge and recover.
About Gay
White
Gay White is a yoga teacher and artist, teaching yoga
fulltime
in the Bay Area and leading retreats in California, New Mexico,
and Mexico. She was the founder and artistic director of the
Yoga Garden Dancers and has performed and produced many evenings of
dance and theater.
Gay has taught yoga since 1989. She teaches Iyengar-style
yoga for all levels and is on the faculty of the Yoga Room’s Advanced
Studies Program in Berkeley, CA.
She teaches courses in breathing awareness, developing a
sense of touch, and backbends, as well as an innovative flowing style of
practice called Yoga Movement. Her classes combine a gentle yet
strengthening approach to practice.

Come relax and enjoy
inner and outer peace at the Land of the Medicine Buddha Retreat Center
in Soquel just south of downtown Santa Cruz on a beautiful, clean and
spacious property nestled in the gorgeous redwoods. Step out of the norm
and experience a refreshing, calm and welcoming stay yet only a five
minute drive from Highway One and downtown Soquel and just fifteen
minutes from downtown Santa Cruz.
Situated in 170 acres
amongst the redwoods in Soquel, California, just south of downtown Santa
Cruz, and adjoining 10,000 acres of state forest, the Center's location
provides a perfect space to relax, connect to your spiritual inner
being, and recover from the strains of life.
Land
of Medicine Buddha is an unique environment, where redwoods, deer and
the song of birds abound, you can enjoy: walking and biking trails,
sit with nature in the meadow, visit the
enchanted forest, admire the beauty of their superb
temple in the forest with its traditional Tibetan artwork,
visit the inspiring meditation hall, turn one
of three beautiful prayer wheels, unwind in the
sauna, swim in the pool or explore Santa Cruz and the
surrounding beaches.
You don't have to be a
Buddhist to visit the center! However, In order to develop the practice
of love & compassion towards our fellow beings, the Center asks its
guests to observe the 5 precepts of no killing (even bugs), no lying, no
stealing, no sexual misconduct and no usage of intoxicants (tobacco,
alcohol, drugs) during their stay.
How to Get There
Land of the Medicine Buddha Retreat Center is about a
one and one half to two hour drive south of San
Francisco.
From the Bay Area take 880 South, 280 south , 101
south, or 85 south to Highway 880 which turns into Highway 17 toward
Santa Cruz and get onto Highway 1 going south toward Watsonville.
From Highway 1 take the Porter Street/Bay Avenue
exit and turn left under freeway.
Turn right onto Main Street. Stay on Main Street
until it merges into Glenhaven Road. Prescott Road is another 1/2 mile
further on the right.
Follow Prescott Road all the way to the end,
cross the wooden bridge, turn left and follow the signs to Land of
Medicine Buddha.
What to Bring

For personal use - flashlight, layered clothing - days can be warm and evenings cool this time of year and walking/hiking shoes to enjoy the serene
beauty of the surrounding redwood forests. |
